View Direction

An explanation of fields and properties

View Direction

To access this dialog:

  • Using the View Settings dialog, select the Direction tab.

  • Various commands requiring a view definition to be set.

This tab, part of the View Settings dialog, is accessible when view settings are displayed in the Plots window.

It is used to define the direction from which data is viewed, and may not necessarily correlate exactly with the direction and position of a plot section.

The view azimuth and inclination settings in this dialog are totally independent of the section azimuth and inclination (specified using the Section Definition tab).

If the currently active section sheet is not planar, you will only have access to the mid-point, alignment and dynamic functions.

Field Details:

The following fields may be available:

View Orientation: select a standard view plane.

View From: Select a standard view direction. The selection available will depend on whether the currently active sheet is a planar or 3d view. If planar, you can select a top-down or rotated view. If a 3D sheet is active, you can select from North East, South East, South West or North West options.

Azimuth: rotate the view left and right by specifying a new value in this field, or using the spin buttons to increment/decrement existing values.

Dip: rotate the view up or down using a manually input value, or the supplied spin buttons..

Mid-Point: change the view center by amending the X, Y and/or Z value fields.

Align to Section: lock the view direction to the section plane. This drop-down list expands the following options, and each selection will 'lock' the viewplane to a particular section direction:

  • Perpendicular

  • Side View

  • Top View

  • Reversed Perpendicular

  • Reversed Side View

  • Reversed Top View

Reset Mid Point: select this button to reposition the section mid point to the default position.

Dynamic: update the view of the section as the section definition is amended.
